PE at Wyndham
The main focus of P.E. at Wyndham Primary Academy is to enable the children to be physically active, thus developing physical fitness, strength and agility. We aim to develop children’s enjoyment of physical activity through creativity and imagination. During PE lessons, children are taught how to move their bodies safely, carry equipment sensibly and work co-operatively with others. The children are taught how to keep their bodies healthy by discussing the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle.
Every child is taught the three compulsory elements of P.E. as required by the National Curriculum. These are games, gymnastics and dance.
Once children are in key stage two they will have the opportunity to develop and refine the basic techniques in striking and fielding activities, athletics and pursue outdoor and adventurous activities. They will also attend regular swimming sessions in Year 3/4/5 allowing them to gain proficiency certificates as their confidence in swimming is developed.
As well as providing children with two hours of quality PE lessons a week, we aim to provide children with the opportunities to take part in physical activity on a daily basis. Premier Sports and staff provide a daily session of lunchtime and after school activities for children to participate in. Children also have the opportunity to join clubs and are chosen to represent the school for various sports teams, e.g. netball, gymnastics, football, athletics.
Throughout the school year we celebrate physical activity and hold whole school ‘Health and Sports’ days once a term. Children enjoy spending these days in their house teams, participating in a range of fun and exciting health and sport activities.
At Wyndham Primary Academy, we are trying to give our children as many opportunities as possible to develop physical skills and the chance to participate in sporting activities.
This year we have made it a priority that the children get regular access to high quality PE lessons each week, are given the chance to represent their school in competitive sport and attend After school clubs that introduce them to new sports.
We will be sending out a list of all the school extra curricular clubs and competitive team sports on offer this half term on next Monday’s newsletter. As well as these, we have joined up with Premier Sports to offer activities after school. We have absorbed the costs in school, so the club is free to you.
To allow as many children as possible to attend, we will operate a first come first served basis. We ask initially that the children sign up to only one club for the first half term. There will be a maximum of 20 places per club and the place will be secured when the form below is filled in and sent to the office. If the list is full, you will be given priority on the next set of clubs.
Autumn clubs ( start week beginning September 16th to October 18th)
Monday – Year1/2 Gymnastics
Tuesday – Year 3/4 Gymnastics
Wednesday – Year 5/6 Gymnastics
Thursday – Year 3/4 Dodgeball

All of the Premier coaches are fully qualified and have vast experience. All coaches have Child Protection and Emergency Aid Certificates as well as up to date enhanced CRB checks.
